Jefferson Township Community Garden
Jefferson Township Community Garden
The Jefferson Township Community Garden, located at 1615 Kimmel Lane in Dayton, Ohio, is a community-driven initiative created by Rebuilding Together Dayton to increase access to fresh, healthy food while fostering connection, education, and well-being.
Launched in 2024, the garden transformed a vacant lot into a welcoming green space where residents can grow fresh produce, learn sustainable gardening practices, and build relationships with their neighbors. Located in Jefferson Township, the garden helps address food insecurity by providing opportunities for families to grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Beyond food production, the garden serves as a place for learning and community engagement. Through volunteer opportunities, educational workshops, and seasonal events, participants gain hands-on experience in gardening, composting, water conservation, and other sustainable practices. The garden also promotes the mental health benefits of spending time outdoors, encouraging mindfulness, stress reduction, and stronger community connections.
As the garden continues to grow, Rebuilding Together Dayton is working to expand the space with additional raised beds, improved accessibility features, rainwater collection systems, composting infrastructure, and educational programming that welcomes gardeners of all ages and experience levels.
Whether you're interested in volunteering, learning to garden, or simply connecting with your community, the Jefferson Township Community Garden is a place where people can grow healthy food, develop new skills, and cultivate a stronger, more resilient neighborhood.
